Psykosis, Crossfire, Snowblind and Saint Slaughter at Fibber Magess on Friday October 22nd review

For over 18 months the Irish Music Scene including the Rock and Metal scene had suffered due to lockdowns and the current pandemic, artists were not making money and venues were shutting down.

But on October 22nd the venues re-opened and live music came alive again, Fibbers provided its loyal customers with a whopper to celebrate the return of gigs by having four of Irelands top #ThrashMetal bands play at it, those bands were Psykosis, Crossfire, Snowblind and Saint Slaughter.

Unfortunately I missed Saint Slaughter but heard they gave a great performance.

Snowblind play next and bring a great mix of Thin Lizzy meets progressive Metal and Thrash Metal that gets the crowd moving. Bassist and Vocalist Ian McKeon and Guitarist Sean Boland don't look they've missed since their last gig while Jake McCarthy bangs the drums to celebrate returning to the stage. Along with playing classics such as Breaking The Chain, Split Of Oak, Hills, Make It So and Judgement, they give the crowd a new song that is yet to be revealed and will hopefully hear more from in the future. 4/5

When Crossfire take to the stage they channel in their young early Metallica with instrumentals inspired by the first three album followed by a cover of the brilliant No Life Till Leather sung with passion by Kevin O'Connor who's back having fun with both Matt Tracy and Conor Jordan while Dan O'Connor doesn't miss a beat on drums. The crowd is not afraid of moshing in this Covid times to tracks like Switch To Rest, World View, Prometheus, Book Of The Dead, Turned To Stone and Guns For Hire, their sound really made Fibbers like it was a bar in Bay Area California in the 80's 5/5.

Finally Psykosis get to the stage and are probably they are playing a gig that isn't called the Gathering. On this occasion we get more moshing and even a bit crowd surfing that you would normally get at a Psykosis show. Frontman Grant Walsh gives excellent vocals on crackers such as Tossed To The Dogs, Driller Killer, Hunt To Kill and Tag Your Dead, they get Saint Slaughters Eoin Clarke to perform Toxic Fugitive, the chap has a strong set of lungs as his high octane vocals got the crowd in a great frenzy and well done to Tom Moylan for drumming with two bands on the day as he performed with Saint Slaughter, he's still one of the top young drummers in Ireland. 5/5.

To close this I would like to say to Fibbers new Sound Engineer Russell Hogg who replaced the legendary John Claude who retired in March of last year but couldn't get his retirement party due to Covid and the Lockdown, he did a great job and has big shoes to fill now.

Welcome back to gigs at Fibbers, may last for a long time.
